SCha NewsShellfish Commission To Make Changes South of South Cape Beach Estates
September 9 Select Board Meeting Update
Several SCHA members attended the Sept 9 Select Board meeting and voiced the concerns our neighborhood has with the proposed changes to shellfishing in our area. You can view the entire meeting at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFP9ejfds2c. (The discussion starts around 12 minutes into the video.) The Select Board asked the Shellfish commissioner to do a survey to assess if there is a large population of shellfish in the area. The commissioner will try and complete that in the next month or two. A decision by the board is delayed pending the survey. We will update this site when the next meeting is planned. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Board would like to make our members aware of a proposal to open shellfish areas of Great River to both the public and commercial shellfishers. This will have a major impact to our neighborhood. Attached is a link to information published in the Mashpee Enterprise. We will update our members as more information becomes available. Public comment on these changes will be heard at the Mashpee Select Board on Monday, September 9. Interested members should plan on attending. SCHA 2024 Board of Directors

As we communicated last April, the Board requested that the town postpone our article to turn the roads over to the town until the town could assess the impact of adhering to the Mass Dept. of Environmental Protection's (DEP) new storm drainage requirements. Catherine Laurant, Director of the DPW, notified the Board that the town will be mailing letters later this week to all SCHA property owners with the new cost figures. She has also scheduled a public meeting, with all selectmen, for June 24th at town hall so that owners may ask questions. Property owners who are in favor of turning the roads over to the town will have until July 15th to re-sign Petition 2. If 50% +1 of property owners sign Petition 2, our article will be placed on the Fall town meeting warrant. Volunteers Needed
We have several spring and summer activities that are in urgent need of volunteers. Please send an email to [email protected] if you have time to help.
